The Crawler-transporter at Kennedy Space Center

I recorded this video for those who would like to see what a Crawler-transporter looks like.  It is quite a remarkable vehicle to see.  It's probably a couple of stories tall, and only moves at speeds of up to 2 mph when carrying a space vehicle -- like the space shuttle.

In the video, the Crawler-transporter is at one of its service stations.

These vehicles have been in use since the 60s.  They were first used to transport the Saturn IB and Saturn V rockets during the Apollo space program era.

It is currently used for the Space Shuttle program.

The vehicles were also intended to be used for the Constellation program, but that program has since then been scrapped.

The Crawler-transporters cost $14-million each to build.
