Reflecting on President Barack Obama's Presidency

As I sit here reflecting on the last eight years, I can’t help but think where we could’ve been today if republicans weren’t so interested in making Obama a  “one-term president,” and a “failed president.” Those were the words of republicans in congress four and eight years ago; that was their intent.

We could’ve been rebuilding our infrastructure, investing more on our kids’ future by spending more on education and job creation in inner cities, and helping our elderly and our veterans.

But that wasn’t part of the plan.

The plan was to undermine every single policy effort put forward by a president who campaigned on the promise of hope. The plan was that if you take away the hopes and dreams of the people who supported the president, as well as take away the possibility of anyone who might’ve not supported the president, to have the perception that the one who promised hope, he couldn’t deliver.

Republicans very cleverly pointed the finger at the president, despite they being the ones fighting arduously on austerity measures that without a doubt would hurt Americans all across the board. They wanted to anger the masses, so that people would never support anything Obama promised, regardless of whether their anger was rightfully in the right place.

I don't blame Obama for the nation's infrastructure crumbling, nor do I blame him for the millions of people who are still out of a job and dependent on government assistance to survive. I blame republicans for that, as it is them who wanted to hurt them in order to pursue their agenda of making Obama a failed president.

But I sit here reflecting on how much worse things could’ve been, and about how much progress we’ve all achieved as a nation. I’m grateful for the efforts and sacrifices made by Obama and his administration.

Thanks, Obama.
